Cucumber, Zucchini and bush beans have sprouted! I'm finishing off 1 and 2 year old seed stock from William Dam - Cucumbers: Babylon Hybrid, Diva Hybrid, Armada Hybrid, Eureka Hybrid, Salad Bush, and Spacemaster 80Here are the seed descriptions from William Dam: (exciting!)
207 Babylon Hybrid
Rich green Middle Eastern cucumber. Babylon is the most popular variety in the Middle East, where it was sold exclusively for the past 5 years. Babylon produces a more consistent length x diameter ratio than Amira, which it replaces. Like Amira, it is an extremely heavy yielder with a good tolerance to Downey and Powdery Mildwe. Best picked when 3-4" long.
A207 Diva Hybrid
AAS winner 2001. One of the sweetest, crisp and bitter free cucumbers in our tests. Diva's fruits are 4”, slender, smooth and glossy green. Plants are healthy, semi-bush habit and are adapted to most growing areas in North America. Diva is a parthenocarpic (female flowered) Beta Alpha type which does not need pollination and contains few seeds. Tolerance to Heat, PM, DM and scab.
A212 Armada Hybrid
Very early, medium-dark green pickle. We have found this variety to be one of the earliest commercial varieties available. Armada has extended picking time because it is slow to go fat and long. Multi-disease tolerant.
B212 Eureka Hybrid
Excellent dark-green main season variety. Eureka is one of the nicest pickling varieties. Produces quality pickles with an excellent length - diameter ratio. Very disease tolerant variety.
A203 Salad Bush Hybrid
One of the heaviest yielding cucumbers available. Produces an abundance of 8-9" straight dark green fruits on healthy compact plants. Because it is parthenocarpic you get fruits very early and it is the best variety for container growing. Disease resistance and tolerant to: powdery and downy mildew, cucumber scab, mosaic virus, and target leaf spot.
203 Spacemaster 80
Good quality Open Pollinated semi-bush variety. Produces a good yield of medium green, 6-8" fruits. Not for container growing.
Zucchini:
Black Beauty a.k.a.
B363 Dark Green
Standard open-pollinated variety also known as Dark Green. Produces good yields of dark green cylindrical fruits on large bush plants. Pick when the fruit is 6-8" long for optimum quality. Not as productive or as early as hybrid varieties.
F363 Spineless Beauty Hybrid
Large, open plants with no spines. Important to gardeners who want blemish free fruit but don’t want aggravated skin. Slender, medium-dark green fruits. Heavy yielder, disease tolerant. Recommended.
Beans:
Beans:
19 Montano
An improved Dutch Princess variety with vigorous, erect plant habit and concentrated pod set. Pods are dark green, round, and very straight, about 13cm/5" long, with slow seed development. Resistant to most bean diseases. Great for canning.
35 Roma II PVP
A true, high quality bush Romano bean with good flavour and tenderness. Produces high yields of large, long (14cm/5"), medium green, smooth, flat pods that have very slow seed fibre development.
YUM!
